THE BOOK - THE AUTHOR - RAVE REVIEWS

Seasoned Executive Chef Artie Cuisine paid his debt to society cooking all the way!  JAILHOUSE COOKBOOK is a no-holds-barred-tell-all cooking saga about a stubborn, plucky, resolute chef's passion to cook and eat well while serving time. Part story, manual, food survival handbook, humor and inspiration.

Inmates wanting to pick up kitchen skills and eat well pitched in with food and labor. This is "Cooking 101". Mastering Artie's techniques could set you on a career path for an outside job in a restaurant kitchen. These are recession-proof skills, Everybody Eats!

A deliciously edible and entertaining biography, rudely eloquent and irreverent.  A quirky journey of physical and emotional survival. Years in the trenches of New York's finest restaurant kitchens prepared him for this.  A you-are-there-reality that can only be told by someone who lived it - and cooked it!  Devising banquets in prison dorms was his recreation, his currency, his safety net. The challenge strengthened his resolve to eat well in prison - even in the 'Box'. Cooking was a daily dare and an "escape". Self preservation = gang protection in exchange for dinner on the table!

Recipes for foods you crave, especially in the unexpected chapter on Holiday Menus, with its sumptuous dishes for a prison Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas: Pineapple-Glazed Baked Ham; BBQ Fried Chicken; Roast Garlic Whipped Potatoes; Candied Yams; Caramelized Onion and Corn Stuffing; Apple Orange Cranberry Sauce; Cookie Crusted Pumpkin Pie; and so much more.

For two Years Artie painstakingly tested and hand wrote 110 recipes with inspirational narratives, and mailed them to his publisher.  Here are detailed instructions for hard-to-believe-can-be-cooked-in-prison American and International gourmet recipes, developed for a demanding inmate clientele of high flying embezzlers, drug czars, extortionists "etc."  You can cook these recipes at home, in school dorms, RVs, on camping trips, and IN JAIL!

Chef Artie reveals how to navigate the prison system with chapters on: "Equipment to Make Your Cooking Life Easier"; "Food Items Sold at My Commissary"; "Food and Utensils My Facilities Allowed Sent in From Outside"; and "Typical Foods I requested From Home".  There's a Glossary and Weights and Measures tips - a 16oz bean can speaks for itself!

In Jailhouse Cookbook, Artie Cuisine is at the top of his game, king of his genre.  So hold onto your toque, grab your apron, and take a wild ride with Chef Artie as he weaves his magic in JAILHOUSE COOKBOOK: The Prisoner's Recipe Bible.

For the Author, ARTIE CUISINE, cooking has always been his life, and the kitchen his home.  He never felt uncomfortable cooking anywhere, unless some head chef was smacking him around!

After graduating from New York's Institute of Culinary Education, he worked in some of New York's most prestigious restaurants, and furthered his culinary education by studying at culinary schools in New Orleans, Hong Kong and Bangkok.  He also attended the prestigious International School for Confectionery Arts in Maryland where he studied under renowned patissier and chocolatier Ewald Notter, learning chocolate work, sugar casting and sugar sculpting.

Artie founded a culinary consulting firm providing food design, quality improvement and cost reduction advice to the restaurant industry.  He was a stylist for food magazine film shoots, and provided food preparation and technique demonstrations at food festivals and the Macy's department store.  He also provided banquet service for from 100 to 2000 at charity functions. Then:

No more truffles, no more foie gras, no more flavored oils, no more fancy equipment, and he definitely didn't have to worry if his meat and fish were fresh, because there weren't any at the New York State Department of Corrections.

Chef Artie now lives in Europe, cooking, eating, writing and jogging on the beach with his dog.  He is a restaurateur, and TV & radio chef.

"A MUST-READ FOR A UNIQUE AUDIENCE"

Chef Artie Cuisine's "Jailhouse Cookbook" is an excellent and truly useful "how to" book that could ease and enhance the lives of any of the hundreds of thousands of inmates that populate U.S. federal and state prison systems. I say this from the perspective of spending the last 40 years as a criminal defense lawyer who has both observed and discussed prison conditions with numerous clients throughout the United States.

The book is highly informative with a myriad of practical suggestions and recipes that can be adapted by the user to the available ingredients and specific conditions at the location of his or her incarceration. Even if the inmate lacks access to a formal kitchen, it provides insights into what creative uses can be made of things that are often available in a prison environment. Given the author's education and substantial experience as a trained chef, the recipes are also well worth trying even in a non-prison environment. It also might provide inspiration to the reader for a viable career on the "outside".  APC , CA

"I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AMAZING BOOK"!
I sent this book to a friend in prison who was desperately looking for recipes after he learned he could cook there. HE LOVED IT!!!  It seems the author went out of his way to make this book not just about cooking in prison and other places with limited resources, but also about the challenge of having something positive to look forward to every day.  This book is very cleverly written. I enjoyed the story before each recipe, Artie's great wit and positive attitude made what must have been a difficult experience seem easy. Sunshine, NY

"FASCINATING"

This cook book is amazing! I love reading cook books, but I have never read one with such detailed explanations of each cooking process. The humorous, down to earth descriptions of each culinary accomplishment is entertaining reading.  Florida Foodie, FL

"FABULOUSLY ENTERTAINING"

I'm hope when I'm in lockup I'll be there with Artie! This book is filled with great recipes and fabulous entertainment.  John T. Carter, NY

"HIGHLY CREATIVE"

One of the best ways to pass time - especially in prison - is to be highly creative with limited resources. Food takes on a special position in these circumstances and this book "Jailhouse Cookbook" shows a wonderful creativity being put to good use. What one can do with limited supplies and ingredients is amazing. Great cooks can't be confined. Time to Read, FL

"I LOVE THIS BOOK"

I really enjoyed this book. It is written by a trained, New York professional chef, who really knows his business. The introduction to each recipe is fascinating, with descriptions of what inspired them. It is amazing that such gourmet meals can be cooked in prison. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I have a very small kitchen with very few utensils, and I made the Won Tons and the dipping sauce and they were delicious.  Alho, NY

Artie writes:

YES, THERE IS LIFE AFTER PRISON!

Me? I'm no longer the cocky perp. who wrote this book in lock-up. As a young, upcoming chef I trashed a bright future by choosing the insant gratificaton that fast money buys. While in prison my mother urged me to write, to feel productive and worthwhile. I believe I matured as I wrote.

My mother mailed me the allotted 17.5 lbs of approved foods every two weeks, and I prepared gourmet meals to the high standard my training required, and to the utter disbelief of my cell mates.

I carefully wrote down the recipes and sent them home. This became THE JAILHOUSE COOKBOOK: The Prisoner's Recipe Bible, my first book. At the time it was a unique idea, and major publishing houses couldn't grasp its significance, the importance of such a book to the 2.5 milion incarcerated people in the United States, and the 10.3 million people incarcerated worldwide. My parents' faith in the project compelled them to form GoodReadBooksTM, Inc. to publish my work.

JAILHOUSE COOKBOOK: The Prisoner's Recipe Bible  remains the most professional book in its genre, probably because I'm a chef, and you won't find any recipes for 'spreads'! It is mentioned by scholars, and the BBC ranked it "Most Upmarket Prison Cookbook".

My fans urged me for more, resulting in this book, and others coming in 2022.

My mother fought daily for my release, and against all odds she succeeded in winning my early freedom through ECPDO, a little known method of parole/release for foreign prisoners willing to be deported. Mom is writing her story, when she's finished working on my books, you'll find it at GoodReadBooks.com.

My career as a chef made me very proud. Writing has brought my family closer, and launched me on another career I'm also proud of. I've proved it can be done, and hope my story inspires others. And of course I still love to cook.

It would be great to hear from you, so please drop me a line at Artiecuisine@Goodreadbooks.com, and I'll send you news about what's going on in my Chefdom, updates on my restaurant that's in pandemic limbo; news about my new books, including cooking in the time of Covid; raising puppies on home-cooked food; short stories; and cooking tips.

Thank you for buying my books, I hope you enjoy them all, and that you'll write a review on Amazon, and/or your favorite social media platforms.

Again, many thanks, stay well and all best wishes,
